DC Comics Movies: Wishful Thinking

VIEW ALL TOPICS

These are DC Comics characters that need a stand alone film...and WHY!

1. MISTER TERRIFIC (Michael Holt)
Michael Holt as Mr. Terrific is a story of redemption and accountability. He has the ability to learn any task and master any skills he is presented with.  Along the way, he creates his mask and T-spheres after a visit from the Spectre. His intellect and personal tragedies would carry a deep plot that could involve the OMAC program and his tech firm, Cyberwear.

2. BRAINIAC
First of all, THIS IS BRAINIAC. He has yet to appear on the big screen since 3 Superman projects wiped him from their scripts. Maybe it's a sign that the Coluan conquerer should go solo. His origins tell of how he satisfies his thirsts for knowledge by absorbing planets after shrinking one of its cities for his collection. His creation predates both that of Galactus (from Marvel Comics) and the Borg (from Star Trek: TNG). His solo film could tell of what happened to other planets BEFORE he comes to earth. I must know how Brainiac went from Vril Dox, the explorer, to BRAINIAC, the destroyer of worlds.

3. FLASH (Wally West)
This incarnation of the Flash is BETTER than Barry Allen. He traversed the Speed Force without "dying" (like Barry did) or suffering the negative effects of aging (like Bart Allen did). The only ability he has not displayed is phasing through solid objects WITHOUT them becoming unstable and exploding (Barry could pass through, boom-free). The beauty of Wally getting his own film is that you don't have to disturb the story of a Justice League film (since Barry is "JL Flash").

4. ATOM (Ryan Choi)
Ryan Choi is dead...BUT in the New 52 universe (which everyone is following now) his death has been erased. His powers to manipulate his size down to smallest levels are what make him special. This combined with his vast knowledge on nanotechnology make him a formidable hero, both physically and mentally. A film where everything is HYPER small would be fascinating to watch, to say the least. He could literally fight the common cold.

5. SHAZAM (aka Captain Marvel)
This film SHOULD NOT FOCUS on Billy Batson, but should illuminate the mythology of Shazam. He would obviously have to fight Teth Adam (as Black Adam) and that conflict would be earth shattering! You don't need the wisdom of Solomon to know this film would be a hit!

Live-Action 'Beauty and the Beast' Film

Success of Maleficent prompts Disney to announce another live-action adaptation!

The Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast, is in line to be retold in a live action format. This announcement comes less than a week after Maleficent topped its opening weekend at the box office.

Maleficent managed a PG rating with dark tones and a marvelous portrayal of the eponymous character by Angelina Jolie. The film also had an advantage of telling a unique story in a familiar world.

It's hard to say if Beauty and the Beast could repeat this kind of story telling, but the film is sure to be another Disney success.

NOTE: This project has nothing to do with the CW Network TV series of the same name.

'Jupiter Ascending' Moves to 2015

VIEW ALL TOPICS

Five weeks from release, Jupiter Ascending suddenly moves to February 6, 2015!

Visual effects delays have been cited as the major source of this move. It's also been speculated that the film would be facing too much competition in the weeks both preceding and succeeding the films opening weekend.

The film is being distributed by Warner Bros. and since Jupiter Ascending is moving to Feb. 6, 2015, this means a move for another Warner Bros. film; Run All Night

Run All Night is another action film starring Liam Neeson, in the vein of the Taken Franchise.

It seems 2014 has not been kind to films distributed by Warner Bros. The comedy film, Blended, opened to abysmal reviews and has become another Adam Sandler flop. The action sci-fi thriller, Edge of Tomorrow is getting universal praise, but has FAILED to generate buzz at this point (2 days before its release).

Another 'Star Wars' Spin-off Lands a Director

Josh Trank will direct a "stand alone" Star Wars film, to focus on a single character.

Trank directed the critically acclaimed sci-fi film, Chronicle (2012), and is set to direct the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot (2015).

He is the second director, after Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), to sign on for a Star Wars project that lies outside of the new trilogy. There is much speculation on those who will be featured in the spin-off films. Many believe bounty hunter Boba Fett, Han Solo, and Grand Admiral Prawn should be among the first to go.
