The Purge: Anarchy Review (Spoilers)

VIEW ALL TOPICS

Last year we were all introduced to the idea of The Purge, a night where all crime is legal, including murder. What we got was a simple home invasion film just like every other home invasion film [Yawn],  but it made enough money for us to get this installment, The Purge: Anarchy.

The Purge: Anarchy follows the same premise as the first film, but this time [thank goodness] we get to see the events unfold from the outside. Throughout this movie, we are introduced to a few characters that you could give a shit about, until we finally meet the star of the movie, Frank Grillo, who is out on purge night trying to get revenge on the man who killed his son.  Anarchy did a much better job of letting us feel how the purge would unfold than the first one did, but I still feel a bit let down by the movie as a whole. It was really predictable from the get go; there weren't many twists and turns and everyone lived who you thought would live. This installment also did a bad job of trying to make me care about its characters. Throughout the whole movie I was hoping to see the supporting characters die, but was let down every time, except once. Really, the only good character was Grillo's, who was somewhat of a badass (potential MFWIC maybe).

Now don't get me wrong, this film was better then the first one and most people will probably find it entertaining, but with a premise of all crime being legal I just wish they would have done more to really show us the dark side of human nature. There is no doubt this movie will make back its money, which might spawn another sequel. If you were a fan of the first installment, you will most likely love this one too.

So have you seen the movie?
