The fifth installment of this explosive mega franchise is set for July 2017!
It's hard to believe this franchise found such huge success in an age where swashbuckler films don't even exist. However, it seems this series, along with the Assassin's Creed video game franchise, has brought back the age of the pirate. On the animation side of piracy, there is also the hit manga-turned-anime, One Piece.
When it comes to Johnny Depp's career, this costume seems to be the only one making money. His other "get-ups" are too ridiculous to generate solid box-office presence, unfortunately.
The last film installment failed to reach the MEGA BLOCKBUSTER level ($1 Billion USD), so it begs the question, can a fifth film make the climb? Pirates 5 will be released on July 7, 2017 as the dominant film, but the following weeks have Fantastic Four 2 (reboot) and Despicable Me 3. It would not be foolish for the film to move away from these power house/fresher franchises.
The film was originally set for 2015 (the greatest year in film), but was moved over script concerns, and that's a TERRIBLE sign.
