Marvel Comics Movies: Wishful Thinking

VIEW ALL TOPICS

These are Marvel Comics characters that need a stand alone film...and WHY!

1. Black Panther (T'Challa)
There have been many to hold the title of the Black Panther, but I want to see a film about King T'Challa's reign. His brand of leadership is highly admirable because of his cunning intelligence and skills as a true warrior. He is not a tyrant or warlord, but the face of Wakandans who are proud to get behind him. It would be interesting to see how this Black Panther deals with S.H.I.E.L.D. and others who want Wakanda's precious vibranium ore. This film could also give great commentary on how countries become villains in their defiance of exploitation. Plus, with Storm by his side, they would be the greatest on-screen couple...EVER!

2. Deadpool
Like others on this list, The Merc with a Mouth has been trashed on the big screen. The version of this character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was silent (cardinal sin) and we saw his face (another no-no). Deadpool deserves a fair shake and it may be best for him to be an anti-hero in his own film. It would be a violent action comedy with the most disturbing forms of slapstick imaginable.

3. Hulk
With this selection, I don't mean a Hulk film where he's just running around and stuff gets destroyed. I'm talking WORLD WAR HULK storyline. This is Gladiator meets Armageddon meets Oldboy (2003). In this story, Hulk goes on a revenge fueled tirade against those who sent him off earth (see Planet Hulk) because he presented too great a danger. While off world he gains serious intelligence and forms his revenge plot. Upon his return, it takes EVERYONE to try and stop Hulk. Not even the god-like characters in the Marvel Universe can keep him from his goal. The continuous fighting could tell the story and show the Hulk's pain after earth's betrayal.

4. Silver Surfer
The origins of this Herald of Galactus must be told, and I mean more than a summary in a Fantastic Four film. The Silver Surfer was, astronomer, Norrin Radd from Zenn-La. When Galactus comes to consume his peaceful planet, he makes a deal to find other planets in exchange for sparing Zenn-La. Galactus agrees and transfers his power cosmic to Norrin, making him the Silver Surfer. When the Surfer starts to regret killing other worlds for his new master, he turns on Galactus to spare his latest meal (earth) from destruction. This caused Galactus to exile him and remain on earth. With no way to leave the planet, the Silver Surfer stays and fights the supervillains. His transition from reluctant villain to true superhero could be Oscar-worthy.

5. Doctor Voodoo
Doctor Voodoo (formerly Brother Voodoo) is the current Sorcerer Supreme. He is extremely skilled in the magic arts thanks to his mastery of voodoo. He started as, psychologist, Jericho Drumm returning home to Haiti when he discovers his brother, Daniel, is dying. He learns of his brother's involvement in the voodoo priesthood and studies under his brother's master. Once Jericho gains skill in the art, his master joins his Daniel's spirit with Jericho's. This makes all of Jericho's spells more potent when he fights his brother's murderer, Damballah, as Brother Voodoo. Damballah defeated him and possessed his body. This path leads to a confrontation with Doctor Strange, who restores Jericho and helps defeat Damballah. Much later, when the Eye of Agamotto seeks another Sorcerer Supreme, it eventually chooses Brother Voodoo. This "normal" man's journey through the impossible is appealing, since he must deal with conflict, both large and small.
